The Night the Animals Talked is a (Rare) animated children's Christmas special first shown on ABC television back in December 9, 1970 and last shown in the early 1990s.

The Night the Animals Talked is an animated children's Christmas special first shown on ABC television on December 9, 1970. It was broadcast only four times on ABC, from 1970 through 1973.

The Night the Animals Talked was produced by Gamma Films of Italy, and was directed by animation veteran Shamus Culhane.
The story evolved from an MGM Records children's recording written by writer and voiceover artist Peter Fernandez.
Although the copyright status of this film is uncertain, bootleg copies are common.

The special focuses on an old Norwegian holiday legend regarding the birth of Jesus Christ.
The plot focuses on a simple stable, which suddenly is showered with light from the star that guided travelers to the Christ child.
The animals stir, and when they awaken they realize they can communicate with each other.
At first, the animals use the ability to disparage each other and to establish superiority over each other, especially over the two hogs who are not allowed
into the stable. An ox, the apparent leader of the animals, is angered by such behavior, as it reveals they are acting like humans.

The animals realize the error of their ways, and attempt to make amends when word reaches them (through the mule carrying Mary)
that an expectant couple desperately needs shelter.

At first, the animals refuse to allow the humans into the manger, as they look down on them and their behavior.
But, the animals relent, and Mary and Joseph are allowed into the stable for the night. That night, as the Christ child is born,
the animals are overwhelmed with love for each other--even the hogs are allowed into the stable for the first time to see the baby.
Then, the animals come to the realization that they have been given the gift of speech to tell the world of the "miracle"--the birth of Christ.
However, as they run through Bethlehem, each animal loses his gift, and they return to the stable in silence but with newfound respect and love
for each other. The ox, the last to lose his speech, is left to wonder if humanity will ever understand the miracle it has been given.

Themes

The special is known for approaching a variety of themes, such as segregation, racism, and vanity the root causes for most of todays world problems.
The interactions of the animals spells out the problems of mankind, as they are seen through the vantage points of animals,
in a manner similar to George Orwell's Animal Farm.

Music
The program was remarkable in that it offered three songs from a duo of music legends lyricist Sammy Cahn and composer Jule Styne.
Their contributions ("A Parable", "It's Great to Communicate", "The Greatest Miracle of All") remain mostly unknown to their fans.

Its legacy

Unlike other holiday specials of the era, "The Night the Animals Talked" faded from the broadcast scene after relatively few showings.
There are several reasons first, the European studio animation was inferior to the other programs being offered,
especially when compared to Rankin/Bass offerings. Second, the program is was deemed to have a very heavy Christian type content,
and media outlets were leery of offending non-Christian audiences what a load of BS eh? its a animation about Christmas da?.

The show was last broadcast on a national level on the USA Network in the early 1990s,
though it has been shown at various times on PBS stations but this too is a rare occasion even these days.

The cartoon has seen a revival mostly through the manufacture and circulation of bootleg copies of the program.
The Night the Animals Talked was never officially released in any form on VHS or DVD.

McGraw-Hill released a 16mm film print for educational use in schools in 1975. The majority of the bootlegged copies reproduced are from the 1975 McGraw-Hill release.

Distributors of these copies claim in their advertising that the show has since passed into public domain, which, if true, would makes such private sales legal.

The only copies you may find if any are on EBay and sell for up to $20 and its perfectly legal since know one owns the original copyrights any longer.

I hope you enjoy this classic christmas animation, its a shame it never continued to be redone.
This is and was a classic Christmas animation like many others that are still being played today.

I remember watching this every christmas untill I was 7 then it was suddenly gone from the TV archives forever.
Some of you may remember it and for those who did not see it...its a wonderful christmas special you should really download it for the kids.
and no its not all that religious as some would claim, its a story based on the traditional accents of what most celebrate as christmas.
So of course it will have something to do with religion, but thats not a terrible thing or is it?

I rather have my kids watch this then an animation of blood and guts with foul dialogs like most of the crap we see today in games and movies enough said.

Note:
This is the only last remaining work-print copy that survived so the quality is a bit old but still very well preserved considering its age.
and the fact it was never released on VHS or and media other then the orginal 16mm film print to which it was made.

So with the holiday season just around the corner I thought this would be a nice share for those who have never seen it or wanted too but could not find it.
So an early Happy holidays too all and yes I'm still feeling very ill with this flu bug....but atleast I'm still alive in spirit lol
and thanks too all for leaving a nice comment on my last post (Tutorial) made me feel abit better...so until my next post take care all.

Enjoy from S.A member H.W

Hello and thank you too all for your kind support of the work and efforts I try to put into my uploads here at S.A.
I have noticed a few members were discovering some difficulties with understanding how to upload an article to Softacrhive.net.
And for new members I just thought it would be of some help if there were a small video tutorial to show you how one uploads an article to S.A.

I am no pro myself but I will show you the basics of how to create and upload a complete post to the best of my abilities.

I would explain the whole process from start to finish and would provide some simple templates that I have already created with note pad so you could see first hand how easy it is once you watch the video then read see the original post in its coded form.

I would also answer some of the questions to why a post could be re-jected and how to make your articles work within the proper guidelines of S.A rules.

Remember that each article be it video to graphic games software or music each have there own set of rules and guide lines that must be met in-order for them to make it onto the main page.

I would also talk you through the whole process in very easy to understand steps.
This would also include how to rar your files using win-rar and what you need to add to the archive name in order to ensure it gets uploaded not only too what ever file hosting provider you use but to keep in line with the S.A name that must be suffixed to it.

So if any members or new members would like me to do a tutorial that covers this subject matter.
Please leave me a PM or leave a short simple comment here saying YES this would be helpful thank you.

If I get enough replies saying yes meaning at least (20 members) to do this tutorial then I will make one and post it on S.A as soon as I get 20 requests or more.

I hope this helps and I will reply back to those who PM me asking for help I don’t mind I like helping people out its good to see others posting on S.A and I would like to help you to get to this point as easy as I can show you.

So thanks again to all the members and too the S.A team for there kind support of my efforts.

From S.A member Hackworth have a good day and if you need help just leave me a PM
